Aww, I'm not sure how familiar you are with this LJ feature, but if you want to follow a story, user, etc there is a 'track' option available when looking at an entry by someone. If you click on that it will give you more options, such as selecting specific tags, and receiving a notification by email when that person updates. I use that feature to follow some of the stories I really like and find it really helpful.
