Just another Tuesday... and a rant...

flighty_dreamsThe next chapter of Spliced is as ready as I can make it... I sent it off for beta-ing earlier today. So as far as when the next update will be, the end is in sight. :P I feel wrung out; I wrote not 1, not 2, but 3 different endings for the chapter. Yeah, go figure. I hope that helps account for the delay in updating.
It's not that I don't know where I'm heading; like I said recently, it's that I wasn't sure of every step along the way. Going from Point A to Point B isn't always as easy as it seems! But I have already started on the next chapter, if that helps. And it seems to be going much better. ;-)
I was just watching the first half hour or so of the original Ghostbusters. Wow, I hadn't seen that movie in forever; it's amazing how much I forgot! And Bill Murray is still the man. :D Yay, Peter! And oh god, I just realized I never thought about slash potential in this movie. I was too young and innocent the last time I saw it.
I've been reading more again (usually can't read much if I am trying to write) but while reading some more urban fantasy something has struck me. The book I'm currently more than halfway through... the main girl is bugging me so much. What is with authors overdoing the 'strong female character' archetype? Like I get that she's a cop and feels obligated to investigate dangerous things that could hurt people... but if you've got a live-in werewolf boyfriend who is a tough guy in his own right, why does he keep getting pushed to the side? I hate it when the man does that to the woman in a story; why do some authors think it's suddenly okay to do the reverse?!
She keeps giving him the 'stay home honey while I deal with this incredible dangerous stuff that could kill me' talk. And the excuse given is that it's illegal for him to be involved in a police investigation, but during the course of the book it also becomes illegal for HER to be involved as well (since she becomes a witness). And yet she's still going off doing all this stuff - usually right after getting out of the hospital from her last exploit - and making him keep out of the way. I swear she's been in and out of the hospital 3 times so far this book. Girl, TAKE HIM WITH YOU, YOU OBVIOUSLY NEED ALL THE HELP YOU CAN GET. He's a werewolf like you, it's not like he's a fragile human being outgunned by a supernatural baddie.
Gah, that bothers me so much. I love my tough women, I do, but they gotta be SMART too. Don't be so effing stubborn that you're taking stupid risks and not even bringing backup with you. It just smacks of retardation.
Sorry about that, I needed to rant. I couldn't even finish the book without doing so. It's not that it's badly written or a bad book, it's just that the MC bothers me so much. Ugh. She needs to grow up already.
One last random side note - please Fox, don't cancel Terminator: Sarah Connor Chronicles. *prays helplessly* The finale was too awesome, and I'm so excited to see where they go next with it... sigh.
